Title: My Experiences with Japanese.

Hello, my name is Jason, and I’m a second-year student at [College].

When learning Japanese, I thought it would be an interesting and fun experience, so I decided to start studying it. I had thought that learning a language was about being able to speak, read, and write Japanese in the classroom. As my previous teacher had often said, “To learn language is not the same as to know language.” But, I never understood the meaning of what he was saying.

After my first year had ended, I went to Japan to teach English. While living there for three months, I taught English, traveled, and played. I also learned an important lesson. That was that learning a foreign language wasn’t just about being able to read or write. Understanding culture is also very important. When you understand a language, it’s like opening a new door. As you’re learning a language, you can start to understand a new world. Learning a language is never simple, and it’s a challenge, but if you can do it, I think that you can have a lot of great, new experiences.

Within the world, there’s a great variety of people, and it’s full of interesting places, so if you never travel to a foreign country you’ll never be able do all these things, or have these new experiences, and I think that would be sad.

Learning a language can be helpful to changing our understanding of the world. For example, in my case, up until now, I’ve met many nice people, but if I wasn’t able to speak Japanese at all, I think it would have been very difficult to communicate with the important friends that I’ve made.

I still can’t write, read, or speak Japanese well, like a Japanese person could. I want to become better, so I must study more. Even two years ago, I couldn’t do anything in Japanese, but since that time, I think I’ve been getting better, little by little every day, so for my future, I definitely want to learn Japanese.

When I went to Japan, I liked to go sightseeing, so I went to Yokohama’s famous Minato Mirai, Hokkaido’s very beautiful and clean lakes, and many other places, but I’ve yet to go to all the places I want to see, so I still want to go back to Japan.

Anyway, life is short, so I think it’s best to meet many people and have many experiences. To do those, I think I need to get better at Japanese.

Thank you for listening patiently to my speech.
